Former Dancing With the Stars pro Julianne Hough has popped up as a guest judge over the last few seasons, but could that turn into a permanent gig for Season 19? According to recent reports, the answer could be yes!
Sources close to the show tell TMZ that the Dancing With the Stars Powers That Be have made Julianne an offer to come onto the show as a full-time fourth judge. Yes, fourth judge — the sources also say that all three of the regulars are coming back, despite Len Goodman's hints about possibly retiring.
The sources go on to say that while Julianne is still in negotiations, she is "expected to make the deal." And no, this does not mean the would-be movie star has given up on acting: Dancing With the Stars would only take up a few hours out of her week, so she could continue to pursue her other career goals.
At this point, this is all rumor, so take it with a grain of salt. That said, it's not exactly out of the blue. There are constantly rumors about judge shakeups, and the show always heavily promotes Julianne when she does drop by. Clearly, someone thinks she's a big draw, so we can believe that the Powers That Be want her to take on a larger role.
How do you feel about Julianne as a potential new judge? She knows a lot about ballroom in general and Dancing With the Stars in particular, which means her comments can be very valuable, but both of her guest judging stints have been controversial. Is it fair for her to be a full-time judge when her brother, Derek Hough, and close family friend, Mark Ballas, are still on the show? And what does this mean for Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who has also expressed interest in being a judge?
