Gavin DeGraw doesn’t have a family with millions of Twitter followers, a sister who already did Dancing With the Stars and another who shouts suggested scores to the judges — but Carrie Ann Inaba is still getting Kardashian vibes from Gavin because she sees him as an underdog.

"I would say Gavin Degraw is the Rob Kardashian of this season,” Carrie Ann told Zap2it. “He's got that element of true growth. He's definitely growing as a person, and he's growing as a performer, and he's genuinely facing his own insecurities and fears, but in a very valiant way, and a very sort of up front way."

The difference may be that Rob was surprisingly good — not great, but good — right away on Season 13 when no one really expected him to be any better than his not-so-talented sister, Kim. Gavin, on the other hand, has been close to the bottom every week. He may be getting better, but Season 14’s crop of talent is a lot more competitive than the group Rob faced. It’s still possible that Gavin could keep improving to be the runner-up like Rob … but it doesn’t look likely at this point.

Speaking of stiff competition, Carrie Ann also talked about Katherine Jenkins’ previous dance experience. Katherine’s not the only one with previous experience — hello, Roshon Fegan! — but when asked about the Welsh lass, Carrie Ann said her dance training is “pretty obvious.” Well, so was Jennifer Grey’s and it didn’t hurt her too much!

Watch the next Dancing With the Stars performance on tonight, April 9 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
