Dancing With the Stars pros Cheryl BurkeKarina Smirnoff and Tony Dovolani were at the ESPY Awards Wednesday night, so naturally Cheryl had athletes on her mind when talking to People about dream contestants.

"I'm excited to recruit more athletes to our show," Cheryl said. "I've always said it, but I still think [New York Giants player] Victor Cruz would be amazing. I see some of his moves, I see his bubbly personality."

Cheryl also wants to branch away from DWTS’s usual focus on football players. "We need a swimmer, we need a hockey player, we need a soccer player," she said. "I think [skier] Lindsey Vonn would be great, but I also think [swimmer] Michael Phelps would be amazing when he retires. Everyone has to move on, and I think DWTS is a great platform for the next step."

Great suggestions! But those are ideas for next spring’s season of DWTS. This fall they are doing All-Stars and Cheryl said she’s down with the idea of mixing and matching celebs with new pros. "If we have a mixture of winners, people switching partners, maybe I would be with my original partner,” she said, “or Karina would be with her original partner, but having it mixed and matched, would be really interesting."

Her fellow pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy was very much against the switching partners idea so it will be interesting to see how the casting folks handle that potentially sensitive situation.
