As we covered a few weeks ago, Chris Jericho turned down two previous invitations to do Dancing With the Stars. As the wrestler writes in his TV Squad blog on Season 12 Week 3, he didn’t know what he was getting into when he finally said yes.
The first week of the show, he was jittery. The second week he was more comfortable, but he hadn’t created any “magic” yet. That changed with his Story Week Rumba to “Let It Be,” in honor of his mother, Loretta, who passed away in 2005 — the year that DWTS debuted.
Chris and his mom used to watch Solid Gold growing up and his mom always said she would make a great Solid Gold Dancer. Chris agreed, saying she was beautiful and even “sexy” and had a great dancer’s body and personality. “It's because of this that I know she would be a HUGE 'DWTS' fan and would've watched the show religiously,” he writes. “She would've been so proud of me for doing the show, and that's one of the main reasons I wanted to dance for her.”
The dance almost moved him to tears, and the fact that it moved others to tears — including judge Carrie Ann Inaba — created the magic he’s been waiting for. “And, for the first time since I began this journey almost six weeks ago, I felt like a dancer,” Chris writes. “Pure, raw emotion that moves people and provides them with a magical moment is worth more than any score. And Team Chericho felt like we scored three 10s when it came to creating such a special moment. As a performer, that's all that I strive for.”
That’s so sweet. We love when big tough guys like Chris and Hines Ward get all mushy about their mamas. Read his full blog post here.
And get ready for Chris & Cheryl to keep up the “magic” with their Paso Doble on Week 4.
