Who will be the prom king and queen of Dancing With the Stars Season 16? We’ll find out on Week 3! Break out your corsages, get the chaperones ready, and read on for details from the 11 remaining couples about their Prom Night routines.
Zendaya Coleman & Val Chmerkovskiy: Waltz
Val told On the Red Carpet a heartwarming story about how they’re dedicating their Prom Night dance to Zendaya's grandmother, who was recently diagnosed with cancer. Val noted that Zendaya hasn’t gone to prom yet (she’s only 16!) and isn’t dreaming about it, but he had an interesting story of his own. Though Val is from Ukraine, he did have an American prom experience. "I got an American passport — I was 8 years old when I moved," he told OTRC. “I went to prom. It was not a traditional prom because I went to a very small, liberal, artsy type school. My graduating grade was 22 people. So my prom was a very hipster type, different type of prom." Zendaya tweeted that they have the Waltz.
Andy Dick & Sharna Burgess: Cha-Cha-Cha
Andy and Sharna aren’t looking forward to this routine as much as their Week 2 Jazz. "The next one's scaring me because it's Cha-Cha,” Andy told E! News. “This one was all fun and games and all. Yeah, we had fun. I got to kind of act and distract people. Cha-Cha's not so easy."
Sharna told On the Red Carpet, "It's a very technical dance, so it is going to be a difficult week for us — there's going to be a lot of hours and a lot going into it, but I've got another really fun character for Andy to play. We've not got your average prom story going on!” Andy then covered the mic so she couldn't give too much away. "People are going to love it," Sharna dished.. Apparently they aren't going down the randy road with this prom story, but it's more about a boy's fantasy of his ideal woman. Hmm...
Wynonna Judd & Tony Dovolani: Samba
What is Wynonna going to bring next week that she hasn't before? "I can't even tell you,” she told OTRC. “Bruno has been provoking me.” She then gave a little sex kitten growl, and Tony noted that he's afraid of a lot of things for next week. "All I have to say is, what you thought you might never see on Dancing With the Stars, you might just see that." Wynonna added, "And it's Tony, not me! Trust me." They don’t discuss their dance style in the video, but Tony tweeted that they have Samba.
Jacoby Jones & Karina Smirnoff: Rumba
Jacoby told OTRC Karina had him do some Rumba moves last week when he thought they were supposed to be doing Jazz. Karina said it was her strategy to plan ahead, and she joked that she wasn’t happy that he had given away their strategy. Karina also tweeted, “Happy Thursday! Excited for our Rumba this week. Working hard on posture, feet and character! @TheRealJacoby12 is doing great!” Rumba for prom, though? Sounds like one of those get-lucky prom nights!
Victor Ortiz & Lindsay Arnold: Contemporary
On the Week 2 Results Show, Brooke said Victor and Lindsay would do Contemporary if they survived into Week 3, and they barely did. Lindsay told OTRC they need to step it up next week, and hope their fans support them. Victor admitted he was a bit let down when he found out they were in the bottom two, and he almost wanted to apologize to Lindsay for putting them in that position. But she said they just have to give it their all, and they are happy with how they did on Monday.
D.L. Hughley & Cheryl Burke: Salsa
D.L. is grateful for the fans who voted so many times for him that they overturned the judges’ votes. "The judges, they never got me, but the Supreme Court, which is America, did. So they overturned Roe vs. Wade." Now he’s just aiming to improve and have fun this week. He said he’s had prom tuxes in baby blue, pink, white, fuchsia, and lime green, saying, “So, I’m like the Lifesaver.” Cheryl wasn’t in the video, but on Thursday she tweeted, "Off to rehearsal! We are dancing Salsa for prom week. It's going to be fun!"
Aly Raisman & Mark Ballas: Viennese Waltz
Mark and Aly have the Viennese Waltz for prom. Aly told OTRC that this romantic dance will show people a different side to her. According to Glamour, Aly went to her senior prom last May, but because Mark grew up in England, he never went to prom. Derek and Julianne Hough spent their teen years over in England too, so they were probably in the same non-prom boat together.
Ingo Rademacher & Kym Johnson: Paso Doble
They have the Paso next, and Ingo told OTRC, "It's going to require a little dancing by myself out there." Kym piped in, "A lot." Ingo quickly retorted, "It gets a little bit scary for me." Judge Len Goodman visited Ingo in the studio this week and looked a lot happier than his usual grumpy self. Hey, It never hurts to butter up the judges!
Kellie Pickler & Derek Hough: Jive
The pair told E! News they have Jive for Prom Night. Derek didn't go to any prom and Kellie didn't go to her senior prom, prompting Derek’s cheeky tweet: "Any ideas on how I should ask Kellie to prom this week ??? I'm nervous, never asked before ... #promvirgin." Maybe they’ll do a cute, old-fashioned ‘50s prom Jive or something. We’ll see!
Sean Lowe & Peta Murgatroyd, Cha-Cha-Cha
What are they going to bring to Week 3? "We're bringing the crazy," Peta told OTRC. "We're bringing the fun, and we're going to have refined Cha-Cha-Cha steps, correct? Sean answered, "Yes. We want to make it positive, we want to make it fun, but at the same time we want the judges to appreciate how good our Cha-Cha is." Peta added, "It's prom night so it's gotta be fun and exhilarating."
