Is Dancing With the Stars pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy leaving the ABC dancing competition before the start of Season 16? TMZ says yes.

The site reports the DWTS pro spoke with producers a few days ago and told them he wouldn’t be returning for Dancing With the Stars 2013. This shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise to loyal DWTS fans. After last season, the dancer announced he would leave the series at the end of the year. However, it looks like he’s speeding up his retirement.

While the reasons for his alleged departure are uncertain, TMZ reports Maks, who has been a featured pro dancer on the series since Season 2, wants to stay in the entertainment industry.

Recently, Us Weekly reported Maks and his girlfriend — and fellow DWTS pro — Peta Murgatroyd split after 10 months of dating.  The reason for the split?

Maks just “wasn’t feeling her anymore,” a source told the magazine. Peta, however, wasn’t on the same page as her hot-headed former beau. Perhaps the split had something to do with Maks’ decision to leave the ballroom?

Whatever the reason, we wish Maks the best of luck! Although, if the report happens to be true, we’re definitely going to miss his energy on the dance floor. No one can ignite a room quite like the elder Chmerkovskiy brother.
