Add Zendaya Coleman and Valentin Chmerkovskiy to the list of Dancing With the Stars 2013 couples with Contemporary as their first dance of Season 16.

It’s going to be a challenge — albeit an exciting one — for everyone, but perhaps especially for Val considering how different this season’s partnership will be from his All-Stars coupling with Kelly Monaco. Val is 26. Zendaya is 16. He’s used to 10-year age differences, but when it’s in the downward direction, that’s when you have to stop the sexy and go for a more Disney wholesome angle.

As Val wrote in his blog for The Clicker, “I will most definitely do things differently. Zendaya and I have contemporary as our first dance. And it’s so funny because her mom came in after our meeting the next day and she said, ‘Hey, you know, I looked you up on YouTube and wanted to get a better idea of what a contemporary dance was all about, so I looked up the contemporary from last season. And yeah, it’s uh ... very interesting!’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, you know, last time I did contemporary, half the nation got pregnant!’ So I’m probably going to tone it down with Zendaya and take a different route! Less about passion and more about inspiration!”

So we’re out of luck if we were hoping for Val to get us preggers this spring!

It’s going to be an interesting new take on Val for viewers, since we’ve really only seen him in hot young stud mode — from Elisabetta Canalis and Sherri Shepherd to Kelly — and now he has to be the older brother type. At the same time, he’s still Val. We don’t want to suffer a full season without his sexy (and shirtless) swagger. It’s bad enough that his brother is gone, don’t make us sacrifice even more. We’ll just hope for a good balance.

Are you excited for this partnership, or nervous for them?
