Dancing With the Stars Season 16 kicked off with a strong start yesterday (March 18, 2013). The Week 1: Performance Show gave us a few top-notch performances, a large swath of good beginnings, and only a few real disappointments.

So, who really brought it in their first week in the ballroom, and who needs to work their butt off if they want to catch up with the competition? We bring you our picks for the best and worst of the week. For once, we basically agreed with the judges, too. (Yeah, we're as shocked as you.)

Best: Zendaya Coleman & Val Chmerkovskiy

Normally we have a hard time picking a top dance this earlier in the competition, but we have to go with the judges on this one: Zendaya and Val's Contemporary routine to "Feel Again" by One Direction was fluid, lovely, and a real standout. Val proved Zendaya's youth won't hold them back with perfectly age-appropriate choreography, and it's clear the Disney star won't have too much trouble translating her hip-hop experience to the DWTS ballroom.

Score: 24/30

Honorable mention:  Kellie Pickler & Derek Hough

Derek got a young hot star with major natural talent? Color us shocked. But, as always, Derek really knows how to capitalize on his good fortune. This Cha-Cha-Cha to “Domino” by Jessie J felt more polished than a Week 1 dance to us.

Score: 21/30

Honorable mention: Jacoby Jones & Karina Smirnoff

Okay, yes, the judges had a point about Jacoby's technique (or lack thereof). But given that he only had a week to actually rehearse we'll let that slide, and this Cha-Cha-Cha to “Good Feeling” by Flo Rida was the most straight-up entertaining dance of the night.

Score: 20/30

Worst:  D.L. Hughley & Cheryl Burke

We're with the judges on this one, too. D.L. is a hilarious person with a fascinating backstory, but unless he majorly steps up his game next week, we don't think all the laughs in the world will make up for his total lack of technical prowess. This Cha-Cha-Cha to "Low" by Flo Rida was, to put it kindly, not good.

Score: 12/30
