Sounds like Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd weren't the only big winners last night.

The ratings for Dancing With the Stars Season 14 may not have been gangbusters when compared to last year and previous seasons — but it's still doing better than the competition. DWTS and American Idol tape in the same studio and have a ratings rivalry that DWTS can only occasionally brag about.

They’re bragging about it today! As ABC touts in a proud new press release, Tuesday’s two-hour Dancing with the Stars Results Show won its two-hour time period in total viewers (17.5 million) and the all-important adult 18-49 demographic (3.2/9) to produce season-high numbers. It was the most-watched TV program of the night, topping the Tuesday finale of American Idol (14.4 million) by 3.1 million viewers (up from an 855,000 viewer advantage on the year-ago night). ABC bragged that they beat Fox’s Tuesday Idol closer for the second consecutive year — and DWTS Results Show is the only TV program to accomplish the feat.

According to Deadline, DWTS’s finale was up 45 percent in 18-49 and 33 percent in total viewers from last week’s Results Show to a season high on the night. However, DWTS was down 30 percent from last spring’s Season 12 finale and, like American Idol, posted an all-time low for a finale.
