How fun that Dancing With the Stars Season 14 hasn’t even started and we already have our first mini-“scandal.” It isn’t much, but it’ll have to do until someone has a nip slip, an injury, or feels insulted by one of judge Bruno Tonioli’s inevitable animal references.

Sherri Shepherd was accused of already practicing with either (or both?) her DWTS Season 14 partner Val Chmerkovskiy or his brother Maksim Chmerkovskiy months before the cast was announced. Sherri denied ever dancing with either bro, although she said she did visit the family’s studio for wedding dance lessons last year.

DWTS host Tom Bergeron promoted tonight’s season premiere on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show and he weighed in on several topics, including Sherri’s dance denial. “The best way I could capsulize it is she took a Bill Clinton approach, she essentially didn’t inhale,” Tom told Ryan.

“I think that if anybody took extensive training it probably would be frowned upon,” Tom continued, “but I don’t know to what extent if she just sort of scoped out the environment or actually took a lesson or arguably later tonight we might find out she should have taken more.”

Check out Tom’s full radio interview for his thoughts on the new cast and ballroom rumors about Bachelor winner Courtney Robertson.

Dancing With the Stars Season 14 premieres tonight, March 19 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
