What was up Len Goodman’s bum last night? He did not have one favorable thing to say about either of Maria Menounos and Derek Hough’s dances on Dancing With the Stars Season 14, Week 8.

While Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli gushed about the couple’s Viennese Waltz to the point of giving it 10s, Len took issue with Derek’s lack of hold in the choreography. “Derek, this girl in hold is the best, and I think you missed a great chance here.” The other judges disagreed, but Len shouted to Derek, “You disappointed me!” He gave them an 8, which turned out to be his kinder score. Later, Maria, Derek and their trio partner Henry Byalikov brought Bollywood to DWTS for the first time with their Samba. Carrie Ann and Bruno had positive things to say and scored the dance with 9s, but Len gave it a 7 — the couple’s first 7 since Week 1 and a far cry from their perfect score last week. Len said if he was judging a Bollywood number it was a 10, but there was no connection with a Samba. It was false advertising.

If Derek’s pride was hurt after being eliminated second in the Motown Marathon, he must’ve been hurting really bad after the Week 8 scores put himself and Maria second from the bottom of the leaderboard — and with a double elimination coming tonight.

But Derek seems to have no regrets and he tried to put a positive spin on things when talking to On the Red Carpet.

"It was a tough night for us with Len but, you know what, it's OK,” he said. “It's all right because it's one of those things where you don't dance for scores. You dance because you want to do good dances. I really wouldn't take back the Bollywood thing because it was so much fun and it's never been done. I'm glad, I'm glad we were the first to do it. And the Waltz — I told her when I was choreographing it, [Len] might not like it 'cause it's a bit more lyrical. It's OK."

Derek and Maria said if they go home tonight, at least they know they did everything they possibly could and put it all out there and they are happy with the results. Maria said Len may have given them lower scores, but she was beside herself with excitement to get two 10s and 9s from the other judges. Derek had prepped her that the judges would either love the Bollywood routine or hate it. “I’d rather take a risk,” Maria said. “We didn’t really fail or get [high praise] — it was kind of like, it was good. But we loved it and that’s what I think matters. We had so much fun doing it.” She laughed. “And hopefully the Indian community will be behind us!”

Watch the next new episode of DWTS tonight, May 8 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
