On last night’s Dancing With the Stars (Season 14, Week 8: Performance), our final six couples took part in the first ever Trio dances. While the judges’ scores seemed dubious, and were met with the live audience loudly booing after Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd’s Jive with Karina Smirnoff was given lackluster scores, the dances themselves were fresh and exciting at times.

During Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas’ Viennese Waltz Trio with Tristan MacManus, a distracting wardrobe malfunction may have taken away from the choreography. Judge Len Goodman said that during Roshon Fegan and Chelsie Hightower’s Paso Doble Trio with Troupe member Sasha Farber, Roshon and Sasha were sometimes difficult to tell apart (which is a good thing!). And Melissa Gilbert may have been the luckiest girl in the world, getting to dance the Samba with both Maksim  and Val Chmerkovskiy.

Overall, did you like this new format? On one hand, it’s always fun to see twice the amount of pros on the ballroom floor. But all that top-tier dancing sometimes overshadowed the contestants’ moves. Tell us what you thought in the poll below.

Watch the next new episode of DWTS tonight, May 8 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
