Maksim Chmerkovskiy has been with Dancing With the Stars since Season 2, but he's still learning new things about it. For instance, the revolutionary concept that most viewers don't care about perfect dance technique, they just want to be entertained.
"I didn't understand that for years," Maks wrote in his Season 15 All-Stars TV Guide blog. "That's why you had [me] speaking out about Bristol [Palin] in Season 11. I know people reading this right now will be like, 'He's backpedaling.' I'm not. I am making my own discoveries about the show that I probably should've made a long time ago, but better late than never."
Maks thinks he and his All-Stars celeb partner Kirstie Alley still have a big breakthrough in them, and have a shot at the finals. "She's a person that we need on the show," Maks explained. "She brings a great contrast to the show, and I'm not talking about skill level. Everybody left is incredible. I know everyone is predicting Shawn, who continues to make our jaws drop, to win, but I don't think it's a slam dunk."
Maks also said Melissa Rycroft is "fantastic," and he's so happy that Melissa and his best friend Tony Dovolani won the Week 7 swing dance marathon. He goes on to note that Apolo Ohno is "amazing" and kills it every week, Kelly Monaco "is just stupid good," Emmitt Smith has "still got it," and Gilles Marini "is arguably one of the best male celebrity dancers that we've ever had."
Notice a trend?
Maks thinks all the remaining celebs are so good that it’s hard to differentiate between them, so there’s an opening for a different kind of couple, like himself and Kirstie. They are here for the party, so to speak, and will continue to be the house entertainment on Week 8 when Tristan MacManus joins them for the Trio Dances. They got first pick of pros and chose the highly coveted Tristan, who may be able to help them get even more fan votes, since he's definitely a popular pro who has been missed since he was eliminated first this season.
On the other hand, Tuesday will bring a double elimination, and Kirstie and Maks are entering the week at the bottom of the judges' leaderboard. We know people toward the bottom have been safe before, but now that we will be going from seven couples to five, it's possible all the remaining dancers have equally strong fan bases.
Do you think Maks and Kirstie can (or should) make the finals?
