For any of you still wondering exactly what went down at the end of Melissa Gilbert and pro partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy’s Paso Doble on Dancing With the Stars, Maks is here to tell you that whatever happened, it wasn’t his fault.

As we know, Melissa had to be rushed to the hospital during the Season 14, Week 4: Performance show after apparently hitting her head and suffering a very mild concussion and some whiplash. Maks fell at the end of the dance, but quickly corrected his position. Judge Bruno Tonioli made the mistake of assuming the fall was Melissa’s fault, which Maks unsuccessfully tried to tell him it wasn’t.

In any case, Maks tells E! “[Melissa] thought she hit the floor during the dance. I was adamant that she didn't because I know our routine and I know there is not a spot that I would allow that to happen.” He continued, “Not to sound like a hero, but I sacrificed myself because I could have saved myself by letting her go. That's why I fell, by keeping her up."

He continued, “Today they showed that she took my leg out with her head. I thought I slipped on her dress and I couldn't understand why. I'm a big guy and her taking my leg out with her head must have been a big impact and it was very fast.”

Maks, there’s no need to be so modest. Everyone knows how heroic you are. You braved the public mockery that came with being Ukraine’s Bachelor! Your sacrifices are endless, and we would be glad to have our heads knocked out by your legs any day.
