Maksim Chmerkovskiy is tough. Even people at home can see that and we’re not the ones working with the Dancing With the Stars pro for six to eight hours a day, seven days a week. (But, oh, sometimes we wish we were...)

All of the DWTS couples fight, but Mr. Maks tends to have his fights made the centerpiece of the rehearsal packages arguably more than any other pro. Part of the reason has to be that it’s just so fascinating to see Maks get worked up. Because he gets worked up a lot. Sometimes over what seems like nothing.

On DWTS Season 12, Week 7, we saw Kirstie Alley cry during her rehearsal video package when Maks seemed to get frustrated with her. Later, she explained that Maks may not know how forceful he can be.

Now Maks is explaining his take on things in his weekly TV Guide blog.

“Yes, Kirstie cries and yes, it broke my heart. I did not want to see her to do that [sic], but I expect that,” Maks writes in the blog. “The show is one of the hardest and most demanding things one can endure. She goes into it and embraces it. The thing I love the most is that she literally has thought about walking out the room, but came back. She came back with tears. I hate tears. It does something bad emotionally to me, especially when a woman cries in front of me. Kirstie, I can allow myself to be affected by it because it's difficult and because she needs me to be Maks and not someone who crumbles and says, ‘OK, let's not do this. Let's do something easier.’ She wouldn't allow me to take it easy.”

As Maks continues, “I'm just really tired of addressing my teaching method. I don't expect anyone to agree with it. I don't think you should. There has to be a variety. I am me and I am this. Whoever has me will have me and will have the results I guarantee. If you want someone gentle, don't come to me. It's funny because Kirstie has said to me that she's heard from others how friendly and nice I am. I am friendly and nice, but I know what I have to do to get down to work to get results, especially under pressure situations like the show.”

Say what you want about Maks, he definitely keeps it real. No fake front or passive-aggression, just straight up tough love. Would you want him as your dance partner? (Too bad, we call dibs!)
