Downsizing is a fact of life nowadays, but come on! We need a double shot of Dancing With the Stars every year or we go through Maks-and-Derek withdrawal. It isn’t pretty.

DWTS Season 13, Week 8 went up in the ratings from previous weeks but according to TV Guide it’s still down 14 percent from last fall. Host Tom Bergeron talked to TV Guide about the ratings dip and the idea of cutting either the fall or spring season.

"One season a year works very well for American Idol," Tom said. "I certainly think that's one of the things that should be considered going forward. I would be looking at the spring season very carefully." Gasp!

Tom also questioned whether the Season 13 cast just wasn’t resonating with people, but his one-season-a-year idea seemed to launch a mini panic. After the article was posted, Tom took to Twitter to clarify his stand on the issue: “My accountant and I assure you we prefer 2 seasons a year. I was merely responding to a [question] about whether that should ever be considered.”

No way! Sorry, 18 million viewers may not be as wonderful as 24 million, but it’s still a lot of eyeballs — connected to a lot of wallets — ready to watch all of your ads twice a week for 20 weeks a year. Don’t mess with the system!
