The happy news that Dancing With the Stars winner J.R. Martinez is going to be a dad just came out last week. However, when J.R. revealed that he and his girlfriend Diana Gonzalez-Jones already knew they were having a girl — and she’s coming this spring — it was clear this was not a new pregnancy.

It turns out, J.R. has known of his daddy duties since September, right around the time of the DWTS Season 13 premiere. (Could that be what gave him the extra boost of energy and motivation to win?)

"I kept it under wraps and focused on my dancing," J.R. told Us Weekly."[But] even when I was dancing, I still made time to go to her doctor appointments with her. I would tell Karina Smirnoff, 'Hey I need to push rehearsal back an hour...' I was so focused mentally, emotionally, on Dancing with the Stars, and then I was also processing, 'Whoa, I'm going to be a dad!" That's a lot of information to process at one time!"

J.R. said his DWTS partner Karina was totally supportive of the time he needed to focus on fatherhood. "She was always the one saying, 'Go, do your thing!' She was very supportive," he said. "She'd always constantly ask, 'How's Diana doing?' She's a sweetheart, and she was very supportive and understanding."
