They’re hot. They’re talented. They share the same passion for dance. They see each other every day. They empathize with each other’s stresses. It’s no shock that many Dancing With the Stars pros have paired up over the years. Peta Murgatroyd and Maksim Chmerkovskiy seem to be the latest couple to come out of DWTS, but plenty of other pros have extended their romances beyond a Rumba. Here’s a rundown.
Anna Trebunskaya & Jonathan Roberts
DWTS pros Anna and Jonathan are the perfect opposites-attract love story. As Anna explained to Dance Spirit of their disastrous first meeting as new dance partners, “We were coming from different approaches. I was born in Russia and he was born in California. He thought I was a cold-hearted Russian and I thought he was a stuck-up American!” They eventually gave each other a try and started having dinner together after practices. On Valentine's Day in 2002, Jonathan took Anna to lunch and brought her to a park bench. He got down on one knee to propose and she said yes immediately. They were married the same year in Jonathan's hometown in northern California in a ceremony officiated by his father. Aww!
Edyta Sliwinska & Alec Mazo
Alec won DWTS Season 1 with Kelly Monaco and was off and on with the show after that, whereas Edyta was on the first 10 seasons of the show… then she left us. The insanely photogenic couple competed on the professional Latin ballroom circuit for years before joining DWTS in 2005. They had planned to marry in 2006 but they were too busy, and finally tied the knot in San Francisco in 2007. They are still together — even if they no longer seem to be with DWTS.
Maksim Chmerkovskiy & Karina Smirnoff
The sexy fellow Ukrainians had known each other for about 15 years just as friends before they found themselves both single at the same time. That time was around the summer of 2008 when they started dating. Six months later they were engaged. The engagement ended after nine months, in September 2009. They split right after their Broadway debut in Burn the Floor, but they still had to dance together at the Emmys. At one point, Maks said he would never speak to Karina again, but we spotted them giving each other a congratulatory hug when saved under the red lights of a Season 14 Results Show, so maybe it’s all water under the bridge.
Peta Murgatroyd & Damian Whitewood
Damian danced with Pamela Anderson on DWTS Season 10. He and Peta reportedly met in Australia and lived together in L.A. We thought they were still together, until the Maks news came out. Damian is now a pro on DWTS Australia, dancing with Russell Crowe’s wife, Danielle Spencer.
Sasha Farber and Emma Slater
Sasha made his debut on the DWTS Troupe on Season 13, and on Season 14 he was joined by his girlfriend, Emma Slater, whom you may have noticed playing one of Amanda Seyfried’s friends in the 2007 film Mamma Mia! Watch Sasha and Emma dance and chat with Extra! in this video.
Kym Johnson & Tristan MacManus
Last summer, before Tristan made his debut as a competing pro, Kym shared a photo at a sports game where she gave Tristan a kiss on the cheek. They posed together on the official Season 13 poster and she called him “gorgeous.” They were spotted out at dinner, holding hands and looking lovey-dovey. They never came out and called themselves a couple, but at some point it just seemed obvious — unless the Hollywood dancing world is just really, really, really different from the real world. Anyway, in April, FOX411's Pop Tarts column reported that Tristan was dating an Aussie actress named Tahyna Tozzi. Who knows what’s true with these guys.
Mark Ballas & Julianne Hough
Talk about keeping it all in the family: When they were kids, Mark Ballas dated BFF Derek Hough's kid sister, DWTS pro dancer Julianne. "It didn't bother me because it was Mark," Derek told People. "So I guess no girls are really off-limits!"
Maks & Julianne
Remember last season when Us Weekly had a story about how Maks and Derek hate each other? They added in there a little note about how Maks and Julianne briefly dated. "Julianne told Maks she didn't want to have a serious relationship," a source told Us Weekly. Once Julianne started dating American Idol host Ryan Seacrest, the source claims Maks retaliated by planting false rumors that Julianne was cheating with Maks.
Last year, after Maks taped The Bachelor: Ukraine, he was reportedly spotted kissing fellow pro Cheryl Burke in Las Vegas. They denied that it was a kiss or that they were dating. They were “just friends.” There have also been rumors about pro buddies Mark Ballas and Chelsie Hightower getting close, although they were never an official couple either. We've always wondered why not...
