With two dance-floor kisses and counting, Maria Menounos and her Dancing With the Stars pro partner Derek Hough are clearly playing the hot and heavy angle for the cameras. But did you know that, off-screen, Maria’s actually taken? And we mean TAKEN. She’s been dating producer Keven Undergaro for over ten years! But you’ll be hard-pressed to catch a close-up of him sitting the audience or hanging with his hottie girlfriend on the red carpet.
Keven did, however, grant a rare interview to Wetpaint Entertainment and opened up about why he prefers to stay out of the spotlight, the very successful site he and Maria created together and how it feels to see her smooching someone else…
Wetpaint Entertainment: All the other contestants have their significant others sitting in the audience, but we never see you. What gives?
Keven: I’m being honest when I say this – I’m not one of those people who are interested in press. I don’t want to be in the spotlight, so I’m not there [in the audience] a lot. I’m happy watching from her trailer.
I don’t do the red carpet. On the rare occasion I go with Maria to an event, I’ll enter from the back or the side. Fame is just not for me. I don’t really do interviews. The last one I did was a while back and I only did it because it was for Howard Stern, who’s my idol. He’s the only person who could get me to do it.
Well thanks for talking to us! How did you and Maria first meet?
I was a head writer at MTV working on the show Singled Out, but I flew to Boston to work on a movie called In the Land of Merry Misfits. Maria was a PA on the movie.
Last year, the two of you co-founded a site called AfterBuzzTV. Tell us about it.
We started it because we both love TV and we both love talk radio. In the same way sports fans can tune into an after-show following their favorite game, fans can go to AfterBuzzTV for post-show wrap-up and commentary on all their favorite TV series.
We cover everything from American Horror Story to American Idol. Maria’s favorite show is Breaking Bad. Everyone who hosts a show is a super-fan. A lot of time, stars from the shows or other celebrities will come in or call in. Snooki, for example, let us know that she’s a big American Horror Story fan so we’re going to have her do an after-show when the series starts airing again.
The site has been taking off in a major way. Did you two expect this kind of success?
We didn’t. We started small and thought it would be something fun. But it’s really exploded. We now do 40 shows a week and have over 120 hosts. We’ve also just partnered with the search engine Bing.
Do you think you and Maria will make it official and get married?
I don’t know. It’s been so long! We work so much and we enjoy each other’s company and we’re really happy with things the way they are. But her parents are Greek. They want the marriage and the grandchildren. They’ve been great sports about it so far, but they’re starting to bring it up more and more.
Final question: you and Maria are clearly devoted to each other. Her kissing Derek Hough doesn’t bother you, does it?
Not at all. It’s part of the business. It’s the same as if she was acting in a movie. It’s a role. I’m fine with it, I promise.
