OK, so Andy Dick didn’t have the best hip action — or much at all — but did his Rumba with Sharna Burgess really deserve a score of 17 on Dancing With the Stars Season 16, Week 7?

Judge Len Goodman said he liked the fun and entertainment value of the dance, as well as Andy’s enthusiasm. But as far as the Rumba goes, “it was more erratic than erotic.” There wasn’t enough hip action or musicality. It needed more movement through the body and arms. Bruno Tonioli got a little harsh, saying Andy took an unforgettable classic dance and now he wishes he could forget it. (Stick to constructive criticism, man!) He added that Andy is just doing steps but they don’t flow through the body in a continuous motion. Carrie Ann Inaba said Andy touches us but he needs to not forget about his arms. They can get spazzy. She was at least gentle and gave some constructive feedback, but she also gave the lowest score — a 5 (cringe!), along with the 6s from Len and Bruno. For comparison’s sake, we’ve seen several 10s so far this season, and a 17 on Week 7 is borderline appalling.

What do you think? Do you think the judges underscored Andy or were they fair? Do they want him to go home, or do you think they are setting him up for sympathy votes? This kind of low score tends to motivate viewers/voters, and the judges do know that...
