Hey, remember that Dancing With the Stars Season 14 double elimination we talked about a couple of weeks ago? Yeah, it didn't happen on Week 6. It's happening on Week 8. So we're going to go from six couples to four in the wink of candy-denying Len Goodman's eye.
Who will be the final four? Well, DWTS Week 8 is going to be funky. The six couples have one ballroom dance and then a Latin dance with a twist — the "Trio Challenge" where the couples have to pick one pro dancer who was already eliminated, or a member of the pro troupe, to dance with them as a threesome. Yes, a ballroom threesome. And yes, Melissa Gilbert gets to be the center of another Chmerkovskiy sandwich, since they picked Val.
That twist may have an effect on the double elim, depending on which pros they all choose (hint: pick a pro with a giant fan base to tap into, especially if he’s Irish!) and how they work together on the dance floor.
Also, back when the first double elim news came out, it was said that they would do it by first eliminating the bottom couple — lowest combined scores and viewer votes — and then the bottom two remaining couples would have a dance-off with the judges saving one winner. But as Mark Ballas and Katherine Jenkins noted in their On the Red Carpet interview, there's no dance duel next week to save anyone, so when you're out, you're out. That sounds like there's no judges' save at all.
If that's the case, then the bottom two go home, period.
Either way, we're guessing one of the couples to go home will be Roshon Fegan and Chelsie Hightower, even if they are scored high. They just never seemed to find a big fan base, for some reason.
The other couple? This part is tricky. Melissa Gilbert and Maksim Chmerkovskiy will probably be scored toward the lower end — 'cause that's just what happens with them — but their fan base has saved them so many times it would be foolish to count them out. Katherine and Mark tend to be scored high and she is praised as the best dancer, but some folks may think she doesn't need votes or they'll be busy voting for their own established fan bases — like Packer Nation for Donald Driver & Peta Murgatroyd or the passionate team fan bases for Maria Menounos & Derek Hough and William Levy & Cheryl Burke.
If we had to guess, we'd say Roshon and ... Melissa are going home next, although it depends on how the judges score. Whenever the judges appear to "underscore" someone, Twitter goes nuts and people post more notes about voting for the couple perceived to have been abused. But that’s the prediction for now, with the final four being Katherine, Maria, Donald, and William.
