Here’s the silver lining: Dating pros Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd were both eliminated on the Dancing With the Stars All-Stars Week 8 Results Show, so now they have time to plan that wedding. Kidding! Unless they do it.

We had a feeling this was the end for Kirstie Alley and Maks, but Gilles Marini and Peta? Ugh. That hurts. Our beloved Frenchman! We lobbied hard for him to return, after he almost won DWTS Season 8. He worked so hard every week. And with both Gilles and Maks gone, the All-Stars hotness factor just cooled off considerably. Thanks a lot, voters.

When it came down to Gilles and Peta vs. Apolo Ohno and Karina Smirnoff as not necessarily the bottom two, we were sure that meant Apolo was leaving, since they did the same thing to him last time, putting him in the maybe-maybe-not bottom two with Sabrina Bryan. Why would they do that to Apolo and Karina twice? Do The Powers That Be just like seeing this couple sweat?

This double elimination combined two weeks of dancing. Gilles ended up third from the bottom of the judges’ leaderboard, above Apolo, which means the power of Olympians remains strong. We don’t even know if Apolo has ever been close to the real bottom two. Melissa Rycroft’s score was high at the top of the leaderboard, and Kirstie’s low at the bottom, but everyone else was very close in the middle of the pack, and maybe fans forgot about Gilles or just decided to focus their attention elsewhere. We can’t believe people still felt he was overscored, since he busted his booty out there on Monday, and received lower scores for it than Emmitt Smith. It’s also possible all the people who have not won before are being picked off. Kirstie and Gilles were both runners-up on their previous seasons. Four of the remaining five celebs are previous winners. Melissa was third back on Season 8, but she was so high atop the leaderboard that she wasn’t in danger. The champions have proven they can win and they are on track to win again. Unless Melissa can hang on.

KIRSTIE’S PARTING WORDS
What has it meant to her to come back for a second time? “The second time around, it’s very special to me,” Kirstie said. “To do it once was one thing, but to be asked to come back, first of all, was an honor. I learned more about dancing, believe it or not. I want to thank Maks because he’s so patient with me and he’s so helpful to me.” She also thanked the judges. “Your critiques really helped me!” And she thanked the fans.

GILLES’S PARTING WORDS
After Gilles’s name was called, Brooke Burke-Charvet asked if he was surprised to be going home. Gilles said he felt like this might be the end. “In the end, it’s just an incredible experience. I had the chance to do it twice. I tried my very best. Peta was an angel out there, teaching me amazing things. I want to thank my wife, because it’s been quite a challenge for the family and all with the jobs. Without her, I’m really nothing.” He thanked the producers and the fans, too.

After the show, Gilles posted on Facebook, "I am so sorry about the elimination. I feel like I let you guys down somehow :( We worked so so hard every single day to bring the best dances possible. Yet came out short ! Life ! I love you and admire your support ! For ever I am your fan !"
