Melissa Gilbert suffered an injury on Dancing With the Stars Season 14, Week 4: Performance after a couple of “tricks” she performed with pro partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy went horribly wrong. Melissa hit her head on Maks’ leg while doing a spin, which resulted in her getting rushed to the emergency room in the middle of the show. Ultimately, the TV star was diagnosed with minor whiplash and a concussion. (For his part, Maks hurt his arm and his groin after he fell during a spin.)

Melissa’s injuries were so bad that she was forced to sit out of Tuesday night’s Results Show. Maks said that she is just taking it easy, but the fact that she had to skip a relatively non-physical episode doesn’t bode well for the rest of the week. Fellow contestants Donald Driver and Maria Menounos have both suffered injuries because of their dancing and they have shown up to every single show. Could this be a sign that Melissa’s injuries are worse than we previously thought?

Maks worked the DWTS red carpet after Melissa’s no-show on Tuesday and told reporters that he isn’t sure if they’ll be able to return.

“I don’t want to make this into a life-or-death kind of thing,” the reasonable pro said. “It’s just a show and we sometimes tend to forget it.”

It sounds like if Melissa can’t pull through, her pro partner is comfortable with stepping aside and dropping out of this season.
