Full Name: Dmitry Chaplin
Dance Style: Latin
Dmitry's ballroom dancing career began at the age of 12 in his hometown of Rostov–on-Don in Russia. His perfect combination of technique and performance soon got him noticed by judges and teachers in his home country.
After moving to the United States, his commitment to dance brought him to work with some of the best coaches in the ballroom world, including some familiar DWTS faces like Louis Van Amstel and Shirley Ballas (mother of Mark Ballas). Dmitry studied in both America and the United Kingdom, and began representing the U.S. at famous ballroom competitions around the world as one of the best dancers in the Under 21 division.
Dmitry was partnered with singer Jewel in Season 8 of Dancing With The Stars before she was forced to withdraw after sustaining stress fractures in her legs during rehearsal. She was replaced by former Playboy playmate Holly Madison. Holly and Dmitry were eliminated in the third week, finishing 11th overall. Dmitry had far better luck the next season when he was pair with singer Mya. The couple finished in 2nd place, nearly clinching the coveted mirrorball trophy.
In 2006, Dmitry's dance career took a different course when he joined the cast of the hit TV show So You Think You Can Dance. He was famous for constantly performing shirtless, with one solo routine having him rip off his shirt. He became one of the Top 10 dancers, representing the ballroom world and establishing himself as an audience favorite. In the following season, Dmitry was invited back to choreograph for the show both in the U.S and for its international versions.
Dmitry also performed in the 2008 Idol Gives Back fundraiser for American Idol, and served as a judge the Broadway Dreams Dance Competition in Canada that same year.
