Full Name: Samantha Harris Shapiro
Samantha Harris could quite possibly have the coolest parents ever. Her late father, Richard Shapiro, was a rock 'n' roll promoter; and her mother, Bonnie Harris Shapiro, was a dancer. In 1972, the two founded one of the country's first renaissance festivals, King Richard's Faire, which continues to this day. With genes like that, it wasn't like Sam would go into just any 9-to-5 job.
Samanatha received her degree in journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, graduating with honors in 1996. The woman's got beauty and brains! She then went on to work as a correspondent for The Insider, Good Morning America, Extra, and E! News. Her other hosting credits Fox's The Next Joe Millionaire and AMC Access.
She's the co-hostess with the mostess. Samantha has been the yin to Tom Bergeron's yang since Season 2. While Tom schmoozes with the judges on the dance floor, Samantha can be found backstage with the contestants. She's been there through it all — chatting with the dancers during the highs and lows of the show.
Sadly, Samantha announced that would be leaving DWTS after eight glorious seasons. She'll be replaced by Season 7 winner Brooke Burke.
Not content with just interviewing celebrities, Samantha's become a star in her own right! Her acting credits include Eric Idle Exploits Monty Python, Surviving Gilligan's Island, Reefer Madness!, Beautiful, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, and even a Palmer's cocoa butter commercial. In 2009, Samantha made her Broadway debut as Roxie Hart in Chicago. She performed a six-week engagement in the long-running musical from July 7 through August 16 at the Ambassador Theatre. Talk about being multi-talented!
Samantha currently resides in Los Angeles, California, with her husband Michael Hess, a financial wholesaler, and their daughter.
