Darius McCrary’s Wife Files For Divorce After Accusing Him of Abuse (UPDATE)
UPDATE (3/14/2017 10:44 a.m. ET): Family Matters just get worse and worse for sitcom star Darius McCrary.
Now the actor, who played Eddie Winslow on the long-running ‘90s comedy, is facing divorce — three weeks after wife Tammy Brawner accused him of abusing her and their daughter Zoey.
In case you missed that news in February, Tammy got a restraining order against her husband after a February 10 incident in which he allegedly struck her on the head and nearly hit 1-year-old Zoey with an object he threw.
The former Harlem Globetrotter also said Darius straps down Zoey’s arms during meals and once held the child over a pot of boiling water and said he wished they never had her.
Darius claims she’s lying, and he has his own restraining order against her.
Now Tammy has filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences and raising safety concerns regarding the child, according to TMZ.
She wants spousal support and legal and physical custody of Zoey, and she demands Darius “attend alcohol/drug abuse and batterers’ intervention classes” before he gets visitation rights.
More as this story develops...
Original story (2/23/2017 6:13 p.m. ET): Family Matters alum Darius McCrary appeared on Star as a violent domestic abuser during the FOX drama’s freshman season.
Now the actor’s real-life wife Tammy Brawner claims he abused her and their 16-month-old daughter, Zoey.
The estranged couple’s new legal fight is shocking.
Former Harlem Globetrotter Tammy alleges her husband had a scary meltdown on Friday, February 10, where he hit his spouse in the head and threw objects at her, nearly hitting baby Zoey, TMZ reports.
Disturbingly, that supposedly wasn’t the first time Darius, 40, put his daughter’s life in danger.
Tammy claims the sitcom alum held their baby over a pot of water “and said he wished he never had her.”
Darius also allegedly straps his daughter’s arms down during meals.
Zoey’s mom has given an upsetting explanation for this reported alarming behavior.
The athlete says her estranged partner “regularly drinks, does drugs and comes home wasted.”
Although these alleged details were enough to get Tammy a temporary restraining order against Darius, he claims his wife’s entire account is a lie.
The actor’s legal team says he’s a “loving, devoted and dedicated father,” while Tammy is the actual “predator.”
Darius’s story paints his basketball playing ex as the violent one.
The father of one says his wife threw a curling iron at him, causing second degree burns.
He also says Tammy “threatened him with a knife” and has a history of violence, which has caused him to call the police three times.
Tammy has already fired back against these damning allegationa.
“I have no reason to lie on ANYONE about ANYTHING,” the new mom wrote on Instagram.
“The guilty always respond guilty. I post my daughter ALL the time. I love her, I am proud of her, and I'm happy God chose me to be her mother.”
I have no reason to lie on ANYONE about ANYTHING. And trust and believe, I DID NOT contact the media. I haven't posted ONE thing about these matters on social media as I've tried to handle it privately and gracefully. However, these documents, unfortunately, are public record and were obviously attained. The guilty always respond guilty. I post my daughter ALL the time. I love her, I am proud of her, and I'm happy God chose me to be her mother. With that being said, I have a duty to protect her and myself. #MuchLove #ZoeysMom
After all of this, there is still an even crazier detail in this legal battle.
Both Darius and Tammy have reportedly been granted a temporary restraining order against each other, meaning they’ve both been ordered by the court to exit the family home.
Fingers crossed this drama is all worked out soon, for Zoey’s sake.
