This was unquestionably a bold move, but bold doesn't necessarily mean good. Was this change a fantastic twist, or a big misstep? Fans seem divided, and we can see both sides of the argument.
On the pro side, bringing David back definitely offers a wealth of new plot possibilities — without forcing the show away from its roots. Season 2 was lackluster in part because it attempted to stretch the story out by making it about a grand conspiracy, but Revenge is at its best when it's personal. Between Aiden's death and David's return, there are plenty of new, character-driven stories to tell when the show returns for Season 4. That's a plus.
On the other hand, doesn't David being alive kind of invalidate Emilys, um, entire mission? She wanted justice for her dead father, and now it turns out he's not dead. For some fans, that takes away from the emotional core of the show. Plus, there's no denying that this twist was obvious; fans have been guessing it since the show first came on air, and isn't it more fun when shows don't go the obvious route?
