Lea Michele Defends Sexy Music Video: “I Have to Be Moving on in My Life”

We love that we get to see a sexier, playful side to Lea Michele (Rachel) in her recently released “On My Way” music video, but not everyone is a fan of the video’s sultry edge. Lea’s Glee character, Rachel, used to have a monopoly on penny loafers and sweaters with cute animals on them, so for some, seeing Lea frolicking through the desert — with a hot guy, no less — in very little clothing is a bit much.

Still, Lea stands by the video and song. “When I heard ‘On My Way’, that’s who I am, when I love I go in 100 percent no matter what,” she told Tim Stack on Entertainment Weekly Radio Sirius XM 105.

“‘Cannonball’ was a very intense story for me to tell and it had a lot of dark elements and it was about getting out of a horrible time,” she explains of her first single and music video. “‘On My Way’ is about love, and it’s about joy, and I wanted to show people seeing me having fun, and with friends, and natural, and more grounded and organic.”

And even though she never mentions her late boyfriend Cory Monteith (Finn) by name, she notes that some fans have had a very difficult time seeing her move on after Cory’s death nearly a year ago. “It is sexy,” she says of the “On My Way” video “And I think that a lot of people — even if I post a picture with Jonathan [Groff] online — and people will be like, ‘How dare you take a picture.’”

“I have to be moving on in my life. I wanted everyone to see that this is who I am and I’m very proud of the video,” she concluded.

We understand that it might be hard for some of Lea’s younger fans to see her with someone other than Cory — even though openly gay Jonathan has been her best friend since their Spring Awakening days — but we agree that she should be able to move on with her life at her own pace.
