We can almost feel the joy and excitement coming from Demi Lovato’s tweets celebrating the Supreme Court’s June 26 rulings on the Defense of Marriage Act and Prop 8.
“OUR LOVE WAS MADE, #MadeInTheUSA!!!!!!! 🇺🇸 #equality #Marriage4ALL #NOH8,” the 20-year-old starlet tweeted to her more than 15 million followers yesterday morning.
The 5-4 vote struck down the 1996 law which denied same-sex spouses the same benefits as married, heterosexual couples. The High Court also dismissed an appeal concerning Proposition 8; the dismissal means same-sex marriages can now resume in Demi’s home state of California.
The Supreme Court announcement was a much-needed ray of sunshine in what was otherwise a bleak week for the X Factor judge. Demi’s biological father Patrick Lovato died last weekend; the two had been estranged for several years. Following the news, the singer and former Disney star spent much of the week out of the public eye, but made sure to publically mark yesterday’s historic happenings.
Dems was just one of many Hollywoodites who celebrated the rulings, and she summed up emotions shared online with another tweet sent early Wednesday morning:
“Gay, straight, lesbian, bi.. No one is better than any one else. What an incredible day for California AND for equality.” Hear, hear, Dems!
