Demi Lovato Not Returning to Glee After Current Contract Ends?
Sounds like Glee’s Santana (Naya Rivera) is in for a bit of heartbreak! It’s now looking likely that Demi Lovato, who currently guest stars as Santana’s new love interest, Dani, might not return to the show once her current six-episode contract is up.
On December 18, People reported that Demi would be leaving The X Factor at the end of this year, in an effort to focus more on her singing career. The pop star has been a judge on the FOX show for two years.
No official announcement has yet been made, but a source tells People, "She plans to spend next year completely focused on her music.” The source doesn’t mention Demi’s role on Glee specifically, but if Dems is focused on music over TV and acting, it seems pretty certain that continuing a role on a television show would be out.
Demi plants to go on tour in 2014, and international travel leaves very little time for 12-hour workdays on a Los Angeles TV set. Just from a scheduling standpoint, it really doesn’t sound like Demi could make it work.
"I think ultimately my main thing is singing," Demi told the mag last month. "Maybe movies once in a while, if the right role comes along." The article also says that Demi had a guest stint on Glee earlier this year. In actuality, the actress has still only appeared in three of her six episodes so far. She’ll next appear in Season 5, Episode 10: “Trio,” which has already been filmed, and presumably two more episodes after that.
But as far as extending her role to make Dani a more permanent member of the Glee crew, it sounds like that’s not really going to happen. Sigh. We guess it’s pretty hard to be a TV star and a pop music superstar at once. Sooner or later, a girl’s got to choose. And Demi Lovato chose music.
