Wondering how Demi Lovato is responding to the highly personal essay recently penned by her ex-boyfriend Joe Jonas? Sounds like girlfriend’s taking the high road.
“@joejonas love you brother. #family/friendsforever,” she tweeted December 2.
That’s more gracious than we can imagine being if an ex publically shared personal stories like the ones Joe did. The former boy bander not only said that Demi and fellow former Disney star Miley Cyrus were the ones to first introduce him to marijuana (the girls would have been in their early teens at the time Joe claims), but he also detailed the personal struggles that eventually landed Demi in rehab.
“I felt like I needed to take care of her, but at the same time I was living a lie, because I wasn’t happy but felt like I had to stay in it for her, because she needed help,” Joe writes in his essay for New York Magazine. “I couldn’t express any of that, of course, because I had a brand to protect.”
Having your ex tell the world that he only stuck with because you were a wreck can’t feel too great. Plus, Joe also referred to one of his pre-Ashley Greene exes as “batshit crazy,” though it wasn’t clear if he was talking about Demi.
Either way, the pop diva is handling this whole debacle with grace and poise. She doesn’t seem at all distraught by Joe’s tell-all, and we’re glad, seeing as the two have been friends for so long. In fact, the exes were even spotted out on a double date with their new significant others earlier this fall. Meanwhile, Demi’s sister Dallas seems to take a more blunt approach to the matter.
