Demi Lovato didn’t mention Miley Cyrus specifically during her recent interview on Craig Ferguson’s late-night talk show but Dems did call out two activities oft-mentioned in the twerkstar’s music: partying and taking molly.
“I’ve done the whole partying thing. I’ve done the whole rehab thing,” Dems says during her The Late Late Show interview, the latest stop on her new book’s press junket, Staying Strong: 365 Days a Year.
“You’ve done rehab already?” Craig asks the 21-year-old pop star. “Yes,” she replies with a laugh. Craig, who has also battled addiction problems, replies, “I wish I’d done rehab earlier. I didn’t go to rehab until I was 29 in 1992.”
“I was 18. I had to start early,” Dems jokes.
Did her early rise to fame inspire her to turn toward partying or seek recovery, Craig asks? “I’ve always been a really motivated, driven like fighter so it’s kind of like when I first got sober I was like, ‘I’m going to show all of you. You don’t think I can get sober? Well watch me!’” But now Dems says she’s stayed sober simply because it’s so vastly improved her life.
“There’s a lot of young people who look up to me and there needs to be someone who stands up and says it’s not about molly and partying and all that stuff,” she adds to applause.
Guess we know what Demi will be sending Miley for Christmas: a copy of her new book.
