Things just went from bad to worse for Fox’s struggling reality competition, The X Factor. Per People magazine, fan-favorite judge Demi Lovato reportedly plans to depart the show after Season 3, which concludes this week.
Demi, 21, joined the show at the start of Season 2. Fans have loved her because of her playful banter with fellow judge Simon Cowell, and because she is often able to use her own personal struggles to relate to various contestants. So why is Demi leaving the show?
A source close to the “Skyscraper” singer says her decision to bid the reality competition adieu is nothing personal.
“She plans to spend next year completely focused on her music.” The X Factor’s demanding filming schedule has meant that Demi hasn’t had time in recent months to focus on her music career, but she plans to change that come 2014. Back in November Demi dished, “I think ultimately my main thing is singing. Maybe movies once in a while, if the right role comes along.
Still the recent Glee guest star has apparently enjoyed her time on The X Factor. “She had a great run and a good time,” the source close to her maintains.
Demi will kick off her first arena tour on February 9, 2014, in Vancouver, B.C. (expect to see fellow X Factor alums Cher Lloyd, Little Mix, and Fifth Harmony rocking out alongside her!) but for the immediate future Demi plans to take it easy, revealing that she will take January 2014 “completely off.”
Dems has yet to publicly comment on the news. Perhaps she'll address it during the two-hour show on Wednesday, December 18.
