We first got wind of a possible collaboration between pop star Demi Lovato and breakout diva Ariana Grande last July, and now Demi has given an update on the duet’s status. So will we get to see these two powerful voices come together in 2014?

“It hasn’t been in the works[sic] but we’ve talked about it,” the departing X Factor judge reveals. “[Ariana] sent me a song and unfortunately I didn’t get to do it but I really want to.”

We really want you to, too! Just think of what might come out of this. Demi could coax out super-sweet Ariana’s inner fierceness, while Ari could challenge Demi to bring her vocals to the next level. The result? Pure pop-R&B magic — make it happen!

At least we know that Demi is enthusiastic about the idea:

“We’ve already talked about it,” the “Made in the USA” singer told Idolator about the collab last summer. “I love her so much. She’s so sweet and so talented. I’m excited. I’m definitely going to collaborate with her at some point.”

That “some point” may not come for a while, unfortunately. Demi just announced she’s re-focusing on music in 2014, after doing stints on The X Factor and Glee this year. She will be headlining a tour starting in February, which is sure to keep her tied up for some time.

Oh well. For now, we’ll just keep listening to “Neon Lights” and “The Way” on repeat to get our Ari-Demi fix.

Are you as bummed as we are that the Demi-Ariana collab isn’t happening? Vent about it below.
