Update (February 11, 2014): Turns out Idina Menzel will be the one performing “Let It Go” at the Oscars but all the same, props to Demi for making the song come to life onscreen!
Original story (January 17, 2014):
Demi Lovato may be taking a break from public life but public life isn’t taking a break from her. In the past couple of weeks alone, the 21-year-old pop star has won two People’s Choice Awards and, as announced yesterday, has a song up for an Oscar!
Dems’ “Let It Go” from the hit Disney movie Frozen is up for Best Original Song and the former Disney Channel star couldn’t seem more thrilled with the news!
“SO honored to have been apart of ‘Let It Go’ nominated for Best Original Song for the OSCARS today!!!,” she tweeted January 16 before giving a shout-out to the number’s songwriters (and the folks who would actually take home the award). “Congrats to Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez!!!”
Demi doesn’t clarify whether she’ll be the one performing the song at the Oscars or if that honor will go to Broadway legend Idina Menzel, who sings it in the animated feature. In case the Oscar people are looking for suggestions, we think a duet would be a to the mazing. There’s no way the other Original Song contenders — “Alone Not Yet Alone,” “Happy” featuring Pharrell, “The Moon Song,” and “Ordinary Love” — could stand a chance against that much megawatt singing prowess.
Tune into the Oscars on Sunday, March 2, to see if Demi’s song takes home the award. In the meantime, listen to the song as performed by Dems in the video below.
