Deport Justin Bieber Petition: White House Must Respond

Belieber fever may have broken here in the U.S.

More than 100,000 people (actually, nearly double that number) have signed a petition calling to deport the Canadian-born pop star. Sound just like some kind of internet gag? We thought so, too, until word came down that because the petition has topped that all-important 100,000 signature mark — crossing the threshold just days after it was created on January 23 — the White House is now obligated to respond.

Those are the rules over on “We the People,” which states that if a petition meets the signature threshold of 100,000 signatures within 30 days of creation, “it will be reviewed by the Administration and we will issue a response.” So Obama, are you Team Justin?

The specifics of the deport-Biebs document don’t mess around. Starting with the very formal, very serious, very historically charged language of “We the people of the United States,” the petition goes on to claim the signees feel they are “being wrongly represented in the world of pop culture.”

They call the 19-year-old “dangerous, reckless, destructive, and drug abusing” and say he threatens “the safety of our people” and is a “terrible influence on our nations [sic] youth.” The obvious solution? Have Canada take him back!

We’ve already discussed if Justin is actually in danger of being deported in light of his recent run-ins with the law. Our resident expert, immigration attorney Harlan York, explained that while Justin probably didn’t have much to fear early on, “if he keeps getting involved with the police, he could find himself in much bigger trouble.”

And is there any bigger trouble than getting a stern phone call from the President of the United States?
