Derek Hough Blames “Unpredictable and Crazy” Voting System For Last Night’s Shocking Elimination

There have been plenty of shocking eliminations on Season 17 of Dancing With the Stars, but this week's send off of Elizabeth Berkley and pro partner Val Chmerkovskiy might just take the cake.

Elizabeth and Val have been on the top of the Leaderboard all season and nabbed a perfect score for their trio last night, making for an even more confusing elimination announcement. Many have blamed DWTS’s new format, in which fans vote based on the dancers’ performances from the week before. The fan vote is also more strongly emphasized this season, allowing lower-scoring teams like Bill Engvall and Emma Slater to make it to the semifinals.

DWTS pro Derek Hough, for one, seems to think that Elizabeth’s elimination was due to the bizarre new system.

“[Elizabeth] did an amazing job tonight, and was praised for being just such an amazing dancer but I think this season has been the most shocking eliminations, there have been several,” he told E! News. “I think it’s the new system that the votes from last week count for this week and it makes it more unpredictable and crazy.”

One person who doesn’t seem to think there was any mistake in the outcome of last night’s show is Bill, however.

“I will tell you this, we deserve to be here,” he said. “We work as hard as everybody else and I’m going to work my butt off this next week to get us into the finals. We’ve got low scores but I think the judges are learning about the rednecks.”

Do you think it’s fair that Elizabeth and Val were sent packing this week? Let us know in the comments below!
