Derek Hough to Choreograph Neil Patrick Harris at Primetime Emmys — With Special Guests!

Even if Derek Hough doesn’t win at the 2013 Emmys, it will be a night to remember for the Dancing With the Stars pro. He, along with the other nominees, will choreograph an original number with host Neil Patrick Harris at the Primetime Emmys show in September — and he could be bringing along special DWTS guests!

Well, we can’t confirm it will be fellow DWTS pros, but The Hollywood Reporter (who first reported the Emmys news) notes that “each has been invited to hire two of their favorite dancers for the number.” The choreographers are not 100 percent confirmed to dance, but we have a feeling they’ll want to share the stage with the How I Met Your Mother star.

This also marks the first time in years that the choreography Emmy was presented at the primetime show — usually it’s given at the Creative Arts Emmys the week before the telecast. This year, they’re swapping outstanding reality competition host with the choreography award, and the host with the most will be a presenter at the Primetime Emmys. Fingers crossed that it’s Tom Bergeron!

As a refresher, Derek is nominated twice for DWTS, alongside Allison Holker — who is nominated for Dancing With the Stars and is a dancer in two nominated numbers — and So You Think You Can Dance’s Sonya Tayeh and Mandy Jo Moore, Napoleon D'umo, and Travis Wall. The Emmys announced the exciting news to them at a special reception, and moments from that event and other work on the number will be “taped for a kind of reality show documentary” which will air at the Emmys. Phew! So many exciting things to look forward to.

Will you tune in for Derek’s performance? Sound off below!
