Derek Hough's book won't come out until August 5, but it's already making headlines — just for the wrong reasons.

RadarOnline recently posted a story titled "More Shocking Allegations: Derek Hough Claims Pal Mark Ballas’ Mom Shirley Slapped Him While Living With The Family In London As A Child," claiming Derek writes in his book about harsh treatment by his second mother while studying dance with the Ballas family. The negative angle was picked up elsewhere on the net, but now Derek is stepping in.

The Dancing With the Stars pro did not like having his book excerpted incorrectly/out of context, especially in such a potentially damaging light, so he tweeted this statement on Wednesday, July 23:

"For any media outlet to read and excerpt my upcoming book, Taking the Lead, and to report that I claimed I was mistreated in any way by any member of the Ballas family while they were parenting, loving and teaching me during my years in the UK is not only inaccurate, it is also irresponsible, inflammatory and unfair to the people I call my family."

Derek's book, Taking the Lead: Lessons from a Life in Motion, comes out on Tuesday, August 5, after he and Julianne finish their Move Live on Tour dates and after Derek performs at the Young Hollywood Awards — in which he and Mark are nominated for Best Bromance.

Are you planning to pick up this book to see for yourself what Derek writes about his childhood?

DWTS Season 19 premieres Monday, September 15 from 8 to 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
