Desiree Dishes on Ditching Brad, Mr. America Contest, James’ Cheating
Last week was a whirlwind week for The Bachelorette's Desiree Hartsock. Within the span of 2 hours, America saw her break Brad McKinzie's heart, judge a Mr. America contest, and have and adorable-yet-revealing date with James Case. Phew, we couldn't imagine actually being there.
In Desiree's blog for People.com, the brunette beauty let all her thoughts out about this past week and hints at "the most awkward date of my life" in Munich. Yeah, you know what that means, the dreaded 2-on-1 date is quickly approaching.
Des reveals that she really wanted to get to know Brad more since he had revealed that he had a child, and that their 1-on-1 date together started out really well, with her bringing out his inner-child during the day. But at night, things took a turn for the worse. "It is important for me to be able to communicate and have natural banter with a partner," Des said. "During the day I thought I had found that connection ... but dinner with Brad was painfully awkward. I hoped the great day we had would continue, but we lacked chemistry. He is such a kind-hearted man and has so much to offer, but I couldn't give him the rose. It was difficult to send a great man home."
Desiree also says that she knew the guys have personalities bottled up and that's why she wanted to do the Mr. America competition. Even though some of the guys let loose during the competition, it seems like that night was also a time for them to show another side of themselves to Des. "The song [Zak Waddell] wrote and sang was incredible. He is extremely talented! The words he wrote are just how I want a man to feel about me. Hearing Zak play melted my heart, and I saw this incredible depth to him. The friendship we started from that first day was being transformed into a romantic connection." She continues, "Another surprise came from Chris, who shared a poem that he wrote. I write poetry as well. Knowing we have that common interest was more than I could have imagined. He showed another side, and that left me intrigued."
And what about the amazing Jersey date with James? "He opened up about his past relationship and cheating on his ex. I appreciated his honesty and believe that no one should be judged by their past. I was disappointed because I had been cheated on, but I was hopeful that James was so forthcoming because he would never do it again. I decided I was not going to hold it against him."
