Desiree Hartsock’s Suitor Has to Close His Eyes to Tell the Truth? (VIDEO)
In Episode 4 of The Bachelorette, contestant Drew Kenney whipped out some Disney-grade romance on Bachelorette Desiree Hartsock. Although the scene got deleted from the final show, it’s just too good to keep hidden. Let’s begin.
You know that part in Aladdin where the palace guards have found the street rat of our dreams canoodling with Princess Jasmine? Trapped, Aladdin turns to Jasmine, reaches out his hand, and says “Do you trust me?” She does, they jump to safety, and our notions of true love begin to form.
Fast-forward a couple of decades and we’ve turned to reality TV for our fairy tales. (How convenient Disney-owned ABC specializes in both.) In last week’s episode, Drew was clearly channeling a little Mickey magic when he pulled an Aladdin on Des.
“Do you trust me?” Drew asks in the deleted scene. The couple is sitting knee-to-knee in a penthouse, a far cry from Aladdin’s hovel in Agrabah, as Drew decides to run a trust test by Des.
“Close your eyes. I’m going to close my eyes as well. We’re just going to be completely open and just talk.” Point of clarification: Isn’t it better to look someone in the eye during heart-to-hearts?
To Des’ credit, she’s getting really good at fielding the most awkward requests from her wanna-be boyfriends. (Unfortunately, girlfriend’s good graces keep getting left on the cutting room floor, including last week’s deleted scene of Des and Zak Waddellmaking out in a grapefruit grove.)
In this case, Drew’s test for Des ends with him doing most of the talking. Turns out he’s the youngest of four children and often took care of a sister who is severely mentally handicapped, a fact that was briefly mentioned in his intro video during the premiere.
“You’re so caring,” Des commends Drew. “That comes off even before you talk about your sister or your family. You can see it. If I opened my eyes and looked in your eyes, I would know.”
And so Des puts an end to the sharing and Drew’s left feeling like he did something right. We’re not sure he did or didn’t (we had our eyes closed too). Honestly, we just want to go watch Aladdin.
