This year is shaping up to be a very pivotal one for Chris Siegfried, as he and fiancée Desiree Hartsock are solidifying their plans to get married in 2014. And in the meantime, Chris has announced that he is launching a whole new career path for himself.

On April 24, Chris who has worked as a mortgage consultant at HomeStreet Bank since June 2012 wrote on Des’s blog that he has decided to become his own boss. “As of May 1st, I will be working for myself as a Mortgage Consultant (Loan Officer),” he writes. “This is going to bring a whole new twist to my online presence and presence in Seattle!” He adds that he is finalizing his website and he feels that this career move will be a “change for the better.”

Way to go, Chris! We can imagine that being self-employed would be exciting, and not just because it presumably cuts down on how often you might feel compelled to tell someone to shove it. And we admire that, despite his brush with reality TV fame, Chris is still staying focused on his career goals.

This news is just the latest reminder that Chris is quite the Renaissance man. He played minor league baseball for the Cubs for a few years and he recently published a book of poems that he wrote for Des. Now, if you’ll excuse us, we’re heading to the store to buy Chris a “World’s Greatest Boss” coffee mug.

Are you surprised that Chris is making this big career change?
