Determined Blogger Crafts 300 Sandwiches For Her Hungry Boyfriend
Forget 99 Problems! Page Six senior reporter Stephanie Smith has 300 problems— and they’re all the same: What do I make for lunch?
Stephanie has been dotting the front page of news sites all over the internet lately after her blog, 300 Sandwiches, went viral. Her first-person story for the New York Post, titled “I’m 124 Sandwiches Away From an Engagement Ring,” is stirring up controversy, but was this story all in good fun?
Stephanie explained how when she delivered a turkey and Swiss sandwich to her boyfriend, Eric Schulte, she received a reaction she wasn’t expecting. She wrote, “As he finished that last bite, he made an unexpected declaration of how much he loved me and that sandwich: ‘Honey, you’re 300 sandwiches away from an engagement ring!’”
According to the “About Me” section of Stephanie’s blog, she “never backs down from a challenge,” so if her man wants 300 sandwiches, he shall receive 300 sandwiches! The only hitch? Eric is the gourmet chef in the relationship, so this challenge wasn’t going to be a walk in the park.
Now the determined blogger is nearly halfway through her challenge, and she’s getting more creative with each passing loaf! Just yesterday she posted her latest creation: “#176 – Roasted Chicken, Sweet Potato Mash and Swiss Chard Leftovers ‘Wich.” Some of her other experimental sammies are the “Messy House,” a simple ham and cheese on a roll, and the “Small and Sweet,” a grilled peach and cream cheese masterpiece.
But Stephanie isn’t the only cook in the kitchen. Eric using his own culinary expertise to help her craft her delicious inventions. She wrote:
Making all of these sammies, I’ve learned how much Eric loves sharing cooking with me. He enjoys going to the grocery store with me, picking out ingredients and planning dinners. Though I still want to get engaged and get married and live happily ever after, I’ve also put less pressure on the race to the 300th sandwich and I’m enjoying the cooking experience with Eric.
Aww! It sound like this experience has actually brought these two closer together. Although a few sites aren’t buying this cute couple activity —Slate calls Stephanie’s original essay “so poorly conceived and utterly vacuous that it threatens to compromise my ability to ever love again,” whileJezebel takes a direct stab at her boyfriend, calling him “a guy who sounds like a less funny MegaDick version of Daniel Tosh” — we have a different take on Stephanie’s story.
While we don’t know Stephanie or her boyfriend personally, in the end, this cooking challenge only brought them closer together as a couple. And sure, it may have started out as a joke, but after drooling over Stephanie’s yummy creations on her blog, we’re actually inspired to try our hand at that little peach and cream cheese number!
