Watch Dexter Roberts Sing “Lucky Man” in American Idol 2014 Top 12 — March 5, 2014
It’s hard to believe that American Idol started almost two months ago, but here we are watching the Top 12 compete for the country’s votes! The producers of the show have decided to stick with their decision to embrace some broader themes this year, which means the contestants won’t be stuck with narrow topics like Motown or Billy Joel.
Tonight’s episode (March 5) is sure to bring some serious competition, as the contestants sing songs that remind themselves of “Home.” Though we’ve gotten to know the remaining contestants fairly well over the last few weeks, the personal theme promises to reveal more intimate sides of them than we’ve seen before.
Next to take the stage is Dexter Roberts, the 22-year-old “full-fledged country boy” from Fayette, Alabama. He didn’t seem to blow the judges away last week with his pitchy performance of “Aw Naw,” so he hopes to show them this time that he truly does have what it takes to stay on the Idol stage.
Luckily, Dexter’s rendition of “Lucky Man” is really the sweet spot for the singer. “Dexter!” exclaims Keith. “I just want to say, that was the perfect song. It’s what you do, you’ve got the perfect voice for it. I like that you took little liberties with the phrasing to make it your own and tell me a story. Really well done.”
