Did Curtis Finch Jr. Deserve to Go Home on American Idol 2013 March 14, 2013?
We barely got to know the American Idol 2013 Top 10 before America had to vote to cut the contestants down to the Top 9!
Last night, we saw some fantastic performances from the Season 12 finalists, but we knew someone was going to be eliminated tonight. That person turned out to be Curtis Finch Jr.
Curtis charmed viewers and the American Idol 2013 judges with his amiable attitude and powerhouse vocals. Fans may even remember him from Season 11, where he made it to Hollywood Week. His background as a preacher’s son and love for gospel made him stand out among the contestants early on. But sadly, it didn’t seem to be enough to keep him in the game. His performance of Fantasia’s “I Believe” showed off his powerful voice, but the judges criticized him for staying too safe with his song choice. Even Jimmy Iovine warned him he was toeing the line between being old-fashioned and retro.
After learning of his elimination, Curtis was given a chance to sing for his life and reprised his version of R. Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly.” Unfortunately, the judges were not unanimous in their decision to save him. Nicki Minaj seemed especially disappointed to see Curtis go.
Do you think Curtis Finch Jr. should have been eliminated American Idol tonight? Vote in our poll below and let us know!
