Did Paul Jolley Deserve to Go Home on American Idol 2013, March 21?

The competition is starting to heat up on American Idol 2013, and the Top 9 has now been cut down to the Top 8. But it wasn’t the easiest decision to make!

Last night’s performances were a mixed bag of some really standouts and some performances that had the judges on the fence.

One of the top performances by far was Candice Glover, who slayed “Come Together” with a rockin’ attitude we haven’t yet seen from her. It was also refreshing to hear an uptempo tune amid all of the ballads that were sung. Burnell Taylor came in at a close second with his effortless take on “Let It Be,” a song he surprisingly hadn’t heard before performing it on the show. Amber Holcomb also gave a solid performance of “She’s Leaving Home,” which the judges praised highly.

Lazaro Arbos, who sang “In My Life,” didn’t win the judges over. Randy Jackson thought he gave a pitchy performance, bit fans ignored the criticism and moved in along into the Top 8. Similarly, Paul Jolley got some flack for his version of “Eleanor Rigby,” which Nicki Minaj considered to be a bland and safe choice for the singer.

Unfortunately, the fans weren’t bowled over by the performance either, and he received the fewest votes in the Top 9.

Do you think Paul should have gone home, or should he have stuck around for another week on American Idol? Let us know by using the reaction buttons below!
