Did Vampire Diaries Steal Stefan’s Water Burial From Angel?
The Vampire Diaries’ executive producer Julie Plec is a huge fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so it’s no wonder we’ve seen some hints of the beloved supernatural show creep into TVD. For example, many fans thought Silas’s shape-shifting ability reminded them of the First Evil, who could take the form of any dead character. When asked if another moment involving Silas — where he buried Stefan (Paul Wesley) in a watery grave in the Season 4 finale — was too similar to David Boreanaz’s character’s burial in Angel, Julie said she didn’t think so.
At ATX Television Festival in Austin, Julie and Arielle Kebbel attended a Q&A session at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, where she responded to the controversy. At the end of Angel’s third season, he is thrown into a metal coffin and tossed in the ocean by his son. Julie explained, “The thing with the lake, with Stefan going into the coffin, we were trying to figure out the best way to bury him and where.” She added that the quarry had a lot of meaningful scenes in the episode, so that was why they chose it.
Even if something maybe happened on True Blood, Twilight, Julie said, it’s OK as long as they are different enough. Hear that, Klaus’s baby haters?
