MTV Star Diem Brown Discusses Her Life-With-Cancer Mindset (PHOTO)
It's been a rough eight years for reality star Diem Brown — having been diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2006, having an ovary and a fallopian tube removed, and then being diagnosed with cancer again in 2012 — but the 30-year-old is cancer-free these days and is happy to dwell on the tough times if it means supporting others.
Diem tells Peoplethat folks affected by cancer approach her all the time — even when she's at the club! "It changes the mood!" she says. "But, believe it or not, it doesn't really bother me. In fact, I welcome it. I went public with my journey for a reason, and I really do want to help people … Some people just want to talk about it. That's part of the process. They need to talk to someone who has been there. And I have definitely been there!"
And while cancer is still at the forefront of this Challenge star's mind, she reveals that that helps her make the most of her time on this earth: "I go in every two months for tests. So every two months, it's a little nerve-wracking as we see if everything's okay. It is really a reminder that this is my life. This is what I've got. Cancer has changed who I am. It sounds like a cliché, but I've only got this one life, and I need to live every day to the fullest. I'm a lot more appreciative of things now."
Must… resist… carpe diem… joke. Dang it! But seriously, we're happy this warrior has such a positive outlook and a charitable heart!
