Dina Manzo and her daughter Lexi may not have had the best travel experience on the way to Chicago, but they are there for the best of causes — supporting Dina’s non-profit organization for children with cancer, Project Ladybug.
The Real Housewives of New Jersey stars are in The Windy City for Atia’s Project LadybugFund (APLF), Chicago’s chapter of Project Ladybug, which was named after a young Chicago girl treated at the University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital. As it’s explained on the Ladybug site, “Atia was diagnosed with cancer at 17 months of age and underwent over 2 years of aggressive chemotherapy treatment. Today, Atia is 6 years old and in full remission.”
They're having a special event on Thursday, June 12 at The Drake Hotel, called the Fourth Annual Ladybug Bash. That’s the premier fundraiser for APLF, to support the mission of providing financial and emotional assistance to childhood cancer patients and their families at the Chicago hospital.
Dina and Lexi got to Chicago earlier this week, and on June 10, Dina tweeted, “We have arrived!! At #Comers Children's Hospital with @leximanzo & Atia! About to have a pizza party…” Dina later shared a pic of that super-cute little pizza party. University of Chicago Medicine shared the photo shown later on June 10, writing, “Thanks to @dinamanzo @ProjectLadybug and @punkys26th for bringing pizza and goodies to the kids at Comer today!”
Dina explained to 103.5 KISSFM Chicago that part of Project Ladybug’s mission is to do everything they can to lift the children's spirits in treatment, so it becomes as close to a positive experience as possible. It turns out to be something kids look forward to, she said, and that helps with recovery.
We already loved Dina, for a bunch of different reasons, but PL just makes us love her even more. Good luck at the Ladybug Bash!
