Divergent Debuts First Full-Length Trailer — See Tris Break the System (VIDEO)

In a dystopian society, a young girl finds herself as the catalyst of impending war between factions. Sound familiar?

For once, however, we're actually not talking about Katniss in The Hunger Games. Instead it's Beatrice "Tris" Prior's time to shine — the protagonist of the YA novel Divergent — the film adaptation of which got its first full-length trailer.

Director Neil Burger was on hand to introduce the new preview in a live YouTube stream today, November 13, around at 11:30 am ET.

In the new footage, we see a lot of the novel's iconic scenes, like Tris (Shailene Woodley) preparing with her mother (Ashley Judd) for her aptitude test — readying to find out to which faction in this futuristic version of Chicago she's best suited — and asking her mother if she was nervous the day of her test. "No," the mom responds. "I was terrified."

We also get a good look at the menacing authority of Jeanine Matthews (Kate Winslet) as she enforces the strict division of the teens into the five factions. "The future belongs to those who know where they belong," she lectures.

Unfortunately for Tris, she seems to get the better of the test. "Your results were inconclusive," announces her test-taker, Tori (played awesomely by Maggie Q). "The test didn't work on you. They call it divergent."

Tris chooses the Dauntless faction, much to Tori's disappointment. "You made a mistake choosing Dauntless," she says. "They'll find out about you."

At least there's a hot guy in Dauntless with whom Tris can bond, Four, played by the very sexy Theo James. And this trailer spotlights their tangible chemistry. "I don't wanna be just one thing," he says, as Tris looks his shirtless back, which is tattooed with the symbols of all five factions. "I wanna be brave and selfless and intelligent and honest and kind."

But she doesn't have much time to swoon — not with Jeanine's watchful eye trained on her. "Divergents threaten the system," Jeanine tells Tris forebodingly. "It won't be safe until they're removed."

Wow. It might bear striking resemblances to The Hunger Games, but this trailer indicates that Divergent is a force to be reckoned with in its own right. (And how much you wanna bet that we'll see this same trailer before Catching Fire?)
